Privacy Policy

LinguistWidget ("we", "our", or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.

Your learning progress — words learned, streaks, daily goals, and settings — is stored locally on your device using secure native frameworks (SwiftData on iOS, Room on Android). On iOS, this data is also shared with the LinguistWidget home screen widget via an iOS App Group. This data is not transmitted to us and stays on your device (and your iCloud/cloud device backups, if enabled in your OS settings).

• Language Preferences: Your selected learning language (e.g., Italian, French, Arabic)
• Proficiency Level: Your selected CEFR level (A1-C2)
• Learning Progress: Words you've marked as learned
• Statistics: Daily streak count, total words learned, learning goals
• App Settings: Daily goal, preferences, and customizations

The app does not require an account and does not collect your name, email, or any other personally identifying information.

The app uses Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (Google) to understand feature usage and diagnose crashes. This includes anonymous, aggregated data such as which screens are viewed, which language/level is selected, and technical crash logs. This data is tied to an anonymous device/installation identifier, not to your identity.

The app also uses Firebase Remote Config to control feature availability (for example, enabling or disabling ads) without requiring an app update.

The app displays ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may use device identifiers (such as the IDFA, where permitted) to serve and measure ads. You can limit ad tracking in your device's privacy settings (iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking).

If you request an ad exemption through the in-app "Disable Ads" form, we store your device's installation identifier in Google Firestore solely to process and approve that request. No other personal information is collected as part of this process.

The optional "Remove Ads" yearly subscription is currently available only on the iOS version of LinguistWidget, and is processed entirely by Apple's App Store using StoreKit. LinguistWidget never sees or stores your payment or card information — that is handled exclusively by Apple under its own privacy policy. We only receive confirmation of whether you hold an active subscription, which is used to hide ads. The Android version does not currently offer any in-app purchases.

If you enable daily reminder notifications, they are scheduled locally on your device (using Apple's UserNotifications framework on iOS, or the equivalent Android notification APIs). No notification content or scheduling data is sent to our servers.

We do not sell your data. Data described above is only shared with the service providers named in this policy (Google/Firebase, Google AdMob, Apple) strictly to provide their respective functionality (analytics, crash reporting, ads, payments).

Access Your Data

You can view all your learning progress, statistics, and preferences within the app at any time.

Delete Your Data

You have full control over your data:

• Reset Progress: Go to Settings → Reset Progress to clear your learning history
• Delete App: Uninstalling the app will delete all locally stored data

Change Settings

You can change your:

• Selected language
• Proficiency level (CEFR)
• Daily learning goal
• Other app preferences

All changes take effect immediately and are stored locally.

The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. The analytics, crash reporting, and advertising services described above only ever see anonymous, non-identifying data.

Your learning data is retained on your device until you choose to:

• Reset your progress in Settings
• Delete the app from your device

We do not store your learning data on our servers. The only server-side data we retain is the anonymous device identifier used to process ad-exemption requests (in Firestore) and the anonymous analytics/crash data collected via Firebase, both of which are governed by Google's own retention policies.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the app or legal requirements. When we make changes:

• We will update the "Last updated" date at the top
• Significant changes will be announced within the app
• Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance
